Monday Myth #6! – You Have To Keep Seeing a Chiropractor!

We are going to restart our Monday Myth series here at St. Johns Chiropractic & Performance, where we take a myth in the chiropractic or health industry, break that myth down, and then we replace it with an even better truth out there.

One thing that we’ve heard a couple times lately out in the community when talking to people is that people are hesitant to come in because they say, “I’ve heard once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to keep going.” And I even heard one person say that they would love to come in and see us because they’re having shoulder pain, but they just don’t want to have to keep going all the time because that’s what they thought you had to do with a chiropractor.

This is such a prevalent myth that we want to break this right now. A good Chiropractor is there to help get you out of pain quickly and then to help you get back to doing what you love. The best do this through correcting any mobility, stability, nutritional, or ergonomics issues that may have led to your pain and your tightness.

The best chiropractors make it their goal to quickly get you back to doing what you love. They’ll give you exercises and stretches to do at home to maintain good mobility and strength around your joints so that you don’t re-injure yourself.

Our Goal is to Help You Reach Your Goal!

At St. Johns Chiropractic & Performance, it is not our goal to keep you coming in our office all the time. We want to you to get better quickly and then we want to get you back to doing what you love with better strength and mobility than ever.

There is research that shows benefit to regularly seeing a chiropractor, though it is by no means necessary. In this particular study, there were over 300 patients who struggled with low back pain throughout their adulthood. Half started a maintenance program, which basically means that these patients came in between 4 and 12 times a year to see the chiropractor, and the other half just saw the chiropractor when they were in pain.

The study found that those who came in for regular maintenance visits to the chiropractor had much lower intensities and frequencies of low back pain compared to those who just decided to come into the chiropractor whenever they had symptoms in their low back.

There research does supports regularly seeing a chiropractor a few times a year as a general checkup for your musculoskeletal health, but it is completely a myth that you have to keep coming in!

So if you have any questions on this, please let us know, but that’s our Monday Myth for the week. So please tell a friend and we’ll see you guys next week.
